Pride of Portugal

Lisbon is both the capital and largest city in Portugal, but don't worry!  The city of Lisbon is one of the most charismatic cities mixing traditional heritage with modern progressive attitudes.  Here, we will start our Pride of Portugal experience diving deeper into Portuguese culture through music, food, architecture, and storytelling that will be reflected throughout our journey together.  Everything is on offer in the capital from an art-lovers getaway, a foodie's paradise, a fun nightlife, and beyond.

The Douro River starts in North Central Spain and snakes its way through Northern Portugal before emptying into the Atlantic in Porto.  The Douro River Valley in Portugal is famed for its steep-terraced vineyards, charming towns, and unique traditions.  The grapes produced here are used to make the famous fortified wine, Port, but is becoming well known for its still red wines that boast huge flavor!  During our stay, you will get several vantage points of this stunning area in addition to seeing how the wine here is farmed and produced.

Porto or Oporto is located in Northern Portugal on the Douro River Estuary.  The city center is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 for its Historic Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge and Monastery of Serra do Pilar.  Port wine, one of Portugal's most famous exports was named after the city.  The wine travels down river where it is housed and aged in Vila Nova de Gaia.  Porto will be our stop for really getting to know and understand Port as we tour some of the famed Port lodges.  You'll get to know of the different styles and see the huge casks where they are stored.  We also have some incredible food excursions planned around the area where you will get to try some true Portuguese staples.
